Masterpiece

“We have become his poetry, a re-created people that will fulfill the destiny he has given each of us, for we are joined to Jesus, the Anointed One. Even before we were born, God planned in advance our destiny and the good works we would do to fulfill it!”

Ephesians‬ ‭2‬:‭10

Using my makeshift garage studio, a treasured friend photographed a family proudly presenting their brand-new baby boy. Using studio lighting was new to my friend; nevertheless, she persisted in capturing pictures the family could be pleased to display.

At their arrival, a strumming in my soul like a melody began echoing, “For we are God’s Masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” The unrelenting repetition stayed until the end of the session when I captured a baby picture with my camera—portraying the scripture playing in my thoughts. Masterpiece, the second “God Picture” brought to light.

Masterpiece is numbered bet ב, a Hebrew letter and number meaning: “two,” “house (God’s dwelling place below),” “inside,” “within,” “family,” and more.

“So God created human beings in His own image. In the image of God, He created them. Male and female He created them (Genesis 1:27).” We are created in the image of God— when we know who He is, we will know who we are.

Poiema—Greek for workmanship—is where our word for Poetry originated. Our lives are in the hands of the Divine Poet. We were born sinful (Psalm 51:5) and are purified through the fire (Isaiah 48:10 ) of life to become His work of art, His original intention, His divine poetry. The natural birth brought inherent abilities, but the spiritual birth secures His workmanship worthy of display.

Our lives collide with difficulties regardless of our family dynamic. Though helpful to have a foundation of faith early on our path, we can still arrive at faith later on the road—the journey offers the same destination, though it often has various entry channels.

From the start of our lives, we collect rubbish that attaches to us, making us question who we are. We begin believing the lies hidden in shadows, leaving us bound and hopeless. Life hits us, but God lifts us. We only need to walk humbly and repentant to Him, “The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.” (Psalm 51:17)

He responds in love where He lifts our head, heals our pain, restores the loss, and gives hope to others who see the work of art only He could produce. They look to us who were battered and desire the One who did the impossible in us to do it for them too.

When we fully surrender our lives, our circumstances allow God to do His most exceptional work. Our most painful moments become reflectors of great glory to the only God of heaven and earth.

We are here for a purpose (Jeremiah 1:5), “Before I shaped you in the womb, I knew all about you. Before you saw the light of day, I had holy plans for you…” We have been fully known before a day of life was lived. The plan—written. the days—given. The talents—entrusted. We only walk confidently by faith and believe, “He who began a good work in us will carry out to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6)

In Jeremiah 29:11-14, the Lord says, “I know what I am doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for. When you call on me, when you come and pray to me, I will listen. When you come looking for me, you’ll find me. Yes, when you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I’ll make sure you won’t be disappointed.” God’s Decree. “I’ll turn things around for you.”

“Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious- the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; the things to praise, not the things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies (Phil 4:8)”.
